New Skirt

I gotta new skirt and I love it! It's Simplicity 2655. I got the fabric at the other Fabric Mart. (It's a Hawaiian chain of fabric stores. I try to stop by whenever I am on holiday there.) It's some kind of cotton/poly blend. This was super simple to sew (did not use the directions) and I used a lapped zipper application for the first time. It ain't perfect, but it wasn't traumatic.

On another note, I hate Joann's. I went in to get 4 yards of cheap quilting cotton because I want to try a maxi-dress, but I don't want to spend a lot on fabric. I'm not sure that the style will suite me. Once again, the store was only staffed with three people: one at the cutting table, one at the register, and one wandering around. The line for the cutting table was so long and so slow I just left my fabric there and bought my sale patterns. I complained, but they just said corporate controls their staffing. I know that they don't have the best quality stuff, but sometimes they have what I want. Too bad I don't have the time to shop there. Ok. Rant over.

Back Home

I am back from my trip to South Korea, and man did I have an amazing time. The subways in Seoul and Busan are in Korean and English, so it is very easy to get around both cities. There is so much to do in Seoul, it was a nice break to go to Busan for a couple of days to chill out. South Korea is a great place to explore on your own, but if you know someone you should go as soon as possible. My Korean classmates made this a trip to remember, and I'm going back with my husband as soon as I can.

Here we are with some of our classmates after dinner (and before drinks):

Busan at night:

I did get some sewing done before the trip. Simplicity 3887 (of course) in a white eyelet.

I lined the body with a very lightweight cotton and used a very narrow serger seam to keep it tidy instead of a french seam. (And fast, I had only an hour and a half to make this.) I also made a black A-line skirt. I did not take any pictures because it is a just a black A-line skirt.

I am currently working on Vogue 2902 for my co-parent's girlfriend. (She gave me her vintage fabric stash for Christmas and I am making her a Vogue vintage reissue dress.) I am also in the planning stages of a romper for my daughter. (Not a trend I love, but she has a near perfect figure, so why the heck not.) I'm not sure what I'm going to make next for myself, but I imagine there will be a skirt in my near future and I promise to try out a new shirt pattern.
