Simplicity 1717

Hey I made something!  And it fits!  And I have a crappy picture!

It's just a basic A-line skirt from Simplicity's AmazingFit line.  I used the curvy pieces and ended up having to take it in an inch (1/4 inch at each side) from the size that I chose, but it now fits perfectly.  I did not look at the pattern instructions and added an invisible zipper instead of a lapped one.  The fabric is a thick stretch cotton that I bought forever ago at fabric.com, and the waist is stabilized with stay tape.  The yoke facing is not hand sewn as nice as I would like, but my hands are bothering me a bit, so I just accepted it and went on.  (This is also why there is a machine sewn hem.)

This is just a basic skirt, but I have never actually had a long skirt so it feels kind of weird when I wear it.  I don't have much in my closet that goes with a long skirt, but I'm gonna try some more stuff on before I panic.  (Not that I will panic.  Probably will buy or make something to go with it.)  It's a style I have been wanting to try, and I'm glad it turned out so well after all my wadders.

I'm trying not to create more stress for myself by setting up high expectations for next year's sewing goals, so I'm going to keep it simple.  I want to work on taking better pictures of myself and my clothes for the blog.  That's it.  (Although it might help if Seattle had any sun, but I'm not complaining.  I love it here.)

Yay!  Mission accomplished.

Do you have boots? Boots would look great with that length skirt.

Great skirt! I thought of making myself one for winter; back when long skirts were "in" (not floor dragging maxis, but what you made) I wore them all the time. I second Faye on the boots. Bonus: You wouldn't have to worry about matching hose! (One of my downfalls... :-))

I think your resolution sounds about perfect. I am not stressing myself out with any lofty goals either. Have fun accessorizing your new skirt!

Happy New Year.
I avoid setting high sewing standards, I don't do stress well. Cute skirt and visualize it paired with tall boots and a sweater.

Happy New Year. I like the skirt and would pair it with a cowl neck sweater and some boots. I tend to wear a lot of sweaters and boots in the winter months. Don't stress yourself out, it is so not worth it, as I am learning now and trying to find ways to get rid of it. I can't wait to see what you sew this year.
